Harden-Murrumburrah Evening VIEW Club celebrated their 30th Anniversary with 75 members and guests at the Harden Country Club on Saturday.
The Smith Family established VIEW in 1960 for the purpose of promoting the Voice, Interest and Education of Women. The Harden VIEW Club was formed in May 1978 after a meeting called by Connie McFadyen and chaired by Rhonda McNamee to gauge interest in the formation of an evening club. This was done with the consent of the Board of The Smith Family. Rhonda was amazed when 80 women arrived and a committee was elected and plans made for the inaugural dinner which was held on May 11, 1978. At that stage there were 150 members which was quite good for a small community. The Evening VIEW club has met continuously since that time with dinner meetings which have featured a wide variety of guest speakers. Members have helped to raise funds to assist the disadvantaged in the community. The current fundraising emphasis is on providing scholarships in the Learning for Life program which provides disadvantaged students assistance with education expenses such as uniforms, books and excursions.
Part of the 30 year celebrations included the presentation of certificates and pins for members with 30 years of unbroken membership. The presentation was made by National Vice President Susan Groenhout and members included; Marj Beveridge, Ros Bradford, Hilda Carpenter, Una Henman, Pam Holding, Gilliane Clarke, Alice Lemon, Lesley McGrath, Mary Norton-Knight, Betty McKinnon, Bev Stewart and Connie McFadyen.
The honour of cutting the birthday cake went to Alice Lemon and Hilda Carpenter who have been wonderful supporters of the club.
Visitors from VIEW clubs in the Zone were present and a special welcome was extended by President Fay to the National Vice President Susan Groenhout, National Councillor Margaret McDonald and Zone Councillor Gail Briant.
