Harman sunk in battle against Brahmans

26/06/2008 1:53:00 PM
Playing at home in Binalong last Saturday the South-West Brahmans were all over the Harman side from the start of play, and never allowed Harman to settle into the game.

The battle started out with the heavy artillery of the Brahmans big Joe Dyball and Graham Moorby pushing the troops forward, deep into enemy lines, which soon had Harman beating a hasty retreat toward their own line.

After spreading the ball wide big Joe Dyball crashed over in the corner to score the first of the Brahmans ten tries. Abed Attallah converted the try and with only four minutes on the clock the local side had gone to a six-nil lead.

Coach Jason Pollard, who was back in the ranks after injury was giving the team direction and purpose with a good kicking game that continually, turned the Harman side around. The kicking game allowed the Brahmans defence to keep Harman pinned down in their own half for long periods of time.

James Blair whose form has been very consistent over the last few games started to put his stamp on the game and busted the opposition wide open with some very destructive bursts, and for his hard work on the day he was rewarded with three tries. Benny James is another player who puts together good back to back games and he also, was rewarded with two tries for the day.

Recovering from a poor start Harman managed to get some good field position from sequential penalties. Some very clever play from Harman’s halfback and their inside centre produced a neat little dummy that opened up the Brahman defence and allowed them to sprint to the line and score the first of Harman’s two tries.

The first half with both sides scoring tries produced some entertaining football with ball movement up and down the paddock. And as the first session came to its end the Brahmans were leading 28 points to 12.

The Brahmans returned to the field and decided to put the issue of who was in charge of the game beyond doubt. The game was just minutes into the second half when the Brahmans barrage had the desired effect of forcing errors for the besieged Harman side. With more than their fair share of the ball Jason Pollard was able to direct the attack in such a way that he had the opposition stretched all over the park.

Pollard himself was next to score when he trailed a big run from Joe Dyball, took the final pass and scored. John Quinn, whose kicking has been a feature of his game lately, took advantage of some broken play following a penalty to score a try. Abed Atallah converted and the game was beyond dispute.

Tyson Astill coming off the bench for his debut run in first grade played like he has been doing it all his life, with some very good bumping runs.

Others that had good games were Joel Blundell, Oldfield and Abed Attallah.

The Harman side showed a lot of heart in this second half and while the Brahmans continued to score tries the Bulldogs made them earn each one of them.

The final score was 52 points to 12, which is a good result for the local side. The Brahmans have shown that they are starting to regain some form after a fairly long lay off and will be better for it when they meet the strong Crookwell side at Harden this Saturday.
