LAST Sunday the Harden Junior Rugby League Club organised a bus trip to Canberra to watch the Raiders V Roosters game. Although the weather and the score for some were not ideal, moods very quickly changed when Michael Quinn’s organisation came off and the 20 junior league players and some rather excited adults got the chance to visit the Roosters dressing shed following the game. Although Roosters were soundly defeated the players and staff were most obliging and spent time signing autographs and having their photos taken with our own stars. The Raiders fans amongst the crew were also able to mix it with their idols when some of the Raiders players sat among the crowd during the Toyota Cup game. A day we are sure will stay with every member of the club. A huge thanks to Leanne McDougall and Michael Quinn for their organisation for the day.
Following their brush with fame the junior players are sure to have big games this Saturday when they take on Boorowa and the Temora Dragons. All games will be held on McLean Oval. The under 7’s and under 8’s will be joined, and then split into two teams to play each other at 9.30am. The Harden under 9’s will face the Boorowa’s under 9’s for the first time this season also at 9.30am and then at 10.10am the Harden and Boorowa under 10’s sides will play their second game against each other. The day will then follow as normal where the under 11’s (11.05am), 12’s (12noon) and 13’s (1.00pm) will take on Temora. Players are asked to be ready near the dressing sheds in their footy gear at least 30 minutes prior to their games for team photos. Coaches are also asked to wear their Coaches’ shirts. Ground setup this week will be the under 10’s and 11’s, parents are asked to be at the ground at 8am and the under 12’s and 13’s parents are asked to pack up following the under 13’s game. Parent’s assistance in setting and packing up will be most appreciated as the committee will still have lots to do before the Chicken and Prawn Night gets under way.
Training for the under 11’s, 12’s and 13’s will be at Boorowa today, the bus will be leaving McLean Oval at 4.15pm sharp. All players are obliged to travel to Boorowa and coaches have the right and will enforce the ‘no travel, you sit on the bench’, rule if need be, especially for those who regularly have missed the few trips we have made to Boorowa.
Leanne has been busy taking individual photos of all the players along with some action shots of games and these will be used to decorate the Hall on Saturday night. At the end of the night the photos can be purchased for $2 each. The ticket sales for the Chicken and Prawn Night were very slow at first but eventually everyone realised that the night was nearing and picked up their tickets. If you haven’t got yours yet, you’ve missed out on joining us for a great night out as bookings have closed. Those who have purchased tickets are reminded that the doors will open at 6.30pm for a 7 o’clock sharp start. Please remember to bring I.D as security will be manning the door and checking all ages.
The Junee Carnival is on next Saturday (August 2), under 7’s, 8’s, 9’s, 11’s and 13’s have all been nominated and times for the first games will be provided in the newsletter next week. All players in the teams attending are asked to make themselves available for the day as it is always a fun day and a great opportunity to play against teams not in our competition. Teams are placed in pools appropriate to their current level and are always a chance of coming away on top of their respective pool. If you will not be available on the day please let your coach know this Saturday so other players can be found. Clubs can be knocked back in their next year’s nominations if they forfeit within a week of the carnival. Running a carnival as big as this one is a huge task and late forfeits cause major headaches for the organisers and are also held against clubs in later years. Your assistance in this regard will be
appreciated.
